POLITICS King Norodom Sihamoni appointed or reappointed 19 top commanders of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) as advisers to Prime Minister Hun Sen on January 27. About three-quarters of those listed on the royal decree, a copy of which was obtained by the Post, were being reappointed to the position. General Pol Saroeun, RCAF commander-in-chief, and General Meas Sophea, deputy commander-in-chief, were reappointed as advisers. They both have a status in the government equal to that of senior minister. General Chea Saran, RCAF deputy commander of infantry, who was also reappointed, said he would, in an attempt to live up to the duties of the position, "try to work hard and to implement the prime minister's guidelines for defending the nation and developing the country". |
