Cambosix, the largest football- gambling agency of Cambodia, has to be closed as it had made some trouble for the country in terms of social security, said Prime Minister Hun Sen (pictured) here on Tuesday.
"We didn't get much tax incomes from Cambosix, but instead it made us have social disorder, domestic violence, family divorce and robbery," he told a student graduation ceremony of a university in Phnom Penh.
"The City Hall and the Ministry of Economy and Finance have to compromise with Cambosix and (guarantee that) the deal is a success. If possible, close it today," he said.
"We will follow the legal procedures of the country to close it. We do it in a way that won't affect other private investment in the kingdom. And we have to pay the compensation for their licensing price and end their licensing term before date," he said, adding that the Cambosix license will terminate in 2011.
The Cambodian government used to present the 4-year-long football-gambling license of about 8 million U.S. dollars for private companies to bid.
Cambosix, the only legitimate football-betting operator in Cambodia, won the license from the government for the first time in 2001 and managed to renew it in Feb. 2007.
