Singer/actress Pov Panhapich (pictured) was seriously wounded by gunshots about a year ago by unknown assailants. She was sent for treatment in Vietnam, survived the assassination but has been since paralysed. She has decided to stayed in Vietnam after she was discharged from the hospital.

The Angkor Thom magazine, in its 225th issue published on 17th of November, 2008, quoted Mrs. Pov Sotheary, Pov Panhapich's elder sister, as saying that at present Pov Panhapich has been living in Saigon with her mother and younger brother and is under treatments everyday by the vietnamese doctors. Her sister told Angkor Thom that Panhapich's conditions have been improving everyday.

Mrs. Pov Sotheary has told Angkor Thom that her family intended to bring Pov Panhapich back to Cambodia when she is able to walk by herself without support. She said that the plan to bring Pov Panhapich back home is achievable because the doctors have told them that both of her legs will be fully functional.

She said that the reason her family wanted to bring Panhapich back to Cambodia is because her sister has always complained that she has a problem adjusting to (Vietnamese) food and having difficulties with the language. But she stopped complaining after the doctors consoled her that she would be allowed to return to Cambodia when she is able to walk by herself.

Mrs. Pov Sotheary said: "If we take Pov Panhapich back to Cambodia in the present conditions, she will be confined to a life of home-living because in Cambodia everyone knows her and they will follow her wherever she goes (in a wheelchair). But in Vietnam no one knows her whenever we take her out to the parks or beaches. So the decision to take her back home to Cambodia will have to wait until she is able to walk by herself."

Mrs. Sotheary added that it will take a bit longer for Pov Panhapich to be fully recovered.//
