According to a witness, police in Rumduol district of Svay Rieng province have arrested 5 people who witnessed the helicopter crash that killed National Police Commissioner Gen. Hok Lundy (on 9th of November, 2008) and accused them of stealing valuables from the crash site.
Mr. Hing Phon, 47 years old, a villager from Prey Keav village, Rumduol district, told the Phnom Penh Post that police in Rumduol district have arrested him and accused him of stealing valuables from the corpse of Gen. Hok Lundy. Mr. Hing Phon said: "The police have accused us of stealing a ring, a belt and a gun belonging to Gen. Hok Lundy...but I have only seen a vallet containing $70 and some Thai baht in it and I have already handed those things to the authority at the site of the crash."
Mr. Hing Phon added that he is among the 5 people arrested who were the first persons to arrive at the crash site. He said that he will be sent by the police to Svay Rieng Court to answer those charges.
He said: "If we don't confess they will put us in jail. I'm not worried because we did not commit what we are accused of."
A police officer from Rumduol district, Mr. Meas Chork, said that the police just invited the 5 witnesses for the interview only and told them that if they took those valuables from the crash site they can return them. But he denied that police have arrested those 5 people.
Mr. Khert Phally, an investigator for human right organisation Licadho based in Svay Rieng, said that those accusations have no basis for the arrests.//
