Cambodia called for all soldiers to be withdrawn from the disputed border area near an ancient temple at the center of a weeklong military standoff with Thailand.
Some 4,000 Thai and Cambodian soldiers are squared off over a small patch of land near the 11th century Preah Vihear temple, in a dispute that Phnom Penh has asked the UN Security Council to take up.
"The troops from both sides should withdraw from the area,'' government spokesman Khieu Kanharith (pictured) told reporters.
"The situation is not calm and is not easing,'' Khieu Kanharith said.
"We won't be soft on this issue because it is an invasion of Cambodia's sovereignty, violation of international law, and the violation of the ASEAN charter,'' he added.
