LONDON, Ont. (CP) — A London, Ont., couple who fled the Cambodian killing fields years ago are millionaires after winning a local hospital lottery.
Vorn Mak and his wife, Soeur Nhek, jumped for joy when they won $1.1 million in the London hospitals Dream Lottery.
The couple moved to London as refugees 21 years ago after fleeing the horrors of the Pol Pot regime in Cambodia.
Mak works as a hotel cleaner and Nhek works for community newspaper.
The couple, who chose cash over a home, furniture and a BMW, say they’ll take some time to decide how they’ll spend the prize.
The charity lottery supports London Health Sciences Centre, St. Joseph’s Health Care and Children’s Health Foundation.
