While the high street is increasingly homogenising fashion, interiors seems to be providing more scope for individuality. By tracking down one of the many one-off boutiques out there, you can pick up some lovingly sourced, quirky pieces that are more likely to give your space that personal touch than any from the mainstream. To get you started on your specialist shopping quest, here are a few stores where, every time I visit – whether I want to or not – I am impelled to spend. They are all quite different in their approach, but fantastic for those certain special somethings – and it’s all available online.
Aimé, in west London, is run by two glamorous French-Cambodian sisters. As well as some gorgeous tableware (1 glass vases, £30 each; candlestick, £15), home scents, lighting and linen, they also offer fashion and music, making the shop something of a lifestyle emporium (www.aimelondon.com).
