Phnom Penh - Cambodian police said Wednesday they had raided a house alleged to be producing pornographic CDs and rescued a number of children who had been recruited to sell the discs.
Phnom Penh anti-trafficking police chief Eng Rathana said agents confiscated about 1,000 illegal video discs of mainly Western adults involved in explicit pornographic acts and had detained 11 people.
'I will say most of those detained were children. I can't give many further details of an ongoing case right now, however,' Rathana said by telephone.
He said it was still unclear what charges the adults would face, and that police were still looking for the ringleaders.
Another officer who requested anonymity said that about six of the detainees were under 15 years of age, with some as young as 12.
'The adults produced the CD copies in the house and hired and sent the children around local bars and restaurants to sell them,' he said. 'We are trying to decide how to re-educate the children now.'
The raid was believed to be the first on a business that actually produced the videos - which sell for as little as half a dollar - rather than on businesses that only market the discs.
