Cambodia: The new rising star?

Stephen D. Mull, Acting Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Political-Military Affairs of the US State Department, came to visit Cambodia, and during his visit, he considers Cambodia as “rising star in the world.”The Koh Santepheap newspaper reported this Friday that Stephen Mull made his comment during his meeting with Hor Nam Hong, the minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on 05 December 2007, at Hor Nam Hong’s ministry.During the meeting, Stephen Mull told Hor Nam Hong that the US highly praised Cambodia which just got of war not long ago, but that it has built itself up following the path of democracy in order to bring in progress in all fields.Stephen Mull considers Cambodia as rising star, not only in Asia, but as the new rising star in the world. He also said that the renown of the Cambodia new star lays in its national development based on democracy, and this is also a contribution to the preservation of peace in the world.Hor Nam Hong thanked the US for providing aid Cambodia in healthcare, and in demining. Regarding the security issue, Hor Nam Hong indicated that, currently, Cambodia and the US maintain a good cooperation in the fight against terrorism.Furthermore, Hor Nam Hong said that Cambodia supports the declaration for the general formation of a task force to fight against nuclear terrorism raised by US President George W. Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin on 15 July 2006.
