PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald)—Var Kimhong, senior minister in charge of border affairs and his Vietnam’s counterpart, Ho Xuan, began the close-door meeting on the Cambodia-Vietnam joint border committee this morning at the council of the cabinet ministers.

This meeting was scheduled to host in Siem Reap since yesterday, but delayed and changed the venue to Phnom Penh, said Koy Pisey, deputy chief of Permanent Secretariat of the National Authority in charge of border affairs.

In the beginning, we planned to hold this meeting from July 06-09, in Siem Reap, but in order to cut the costs we decided hosting in Phnom Penh for only two days instead, she added.

Cambodia and Vietnam share a common border of 1,270 kilometers. About 80 percent of the border demarcation between the two countries has been completed.
The border issues between Cambodia and Vietnam have been erupted in recently days, while the Cambodia’s ministry of foreign affairs has been sent some protest of notes. Yesterday, Prime Minister Hun Sen submitted a letter to Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations to borrow the original maps from UN to verify with the current Royal Government of Cambodian Map.
