PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Family members of fugitive tycoon Thong Sarath, appeared at Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Saturday for questioning over the death of a tycoon.
The police suspected that Thong Sarath, a Cambodian Tycoon, was behind the death of tycoon Ung Meng Cheu who was killed in November. He is now on the run and the police are trying to arrest him.
Thong Sarath's mother, Keo Sary and father, Thong Chamroeun, and his wife and brother were arrested on Wednesday when police raided their house in Chak Angre Krom commune.
The court charged four of Thong Sarath's bodyguards with intentional murder and conspiracy in the slaying of Ung Meng Cheu who was shot dead last month when he stepped out of his vehicle outside fruit store in the center of Phnom Penh.
According to article 200 and 29 of Criminal Codes, The accused, Seang Veasna, a gunman, Ly Sai, motorycle driver and accomplices Meas Sambath and Koy Chantol can face life in prison if they are found guilty.
