PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — Members of Cambodia's opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party were sworn in Tuesday as National Assembly lawmakers, officially ending a deadlock that began when they charged that the results of a general election a year ago were rigged.
Party leader Sam Rainsy and 54 colleagues took their oaths in front of King Norodom Sihamoni inside the Royal Palace.
The opposition agreed to take their seats after reaching a deal two weeks ago with Prime Minister Hun Sen and his Cambodian People's Party for political reforms and the sharing of leadership positions in National Assembly committees. There are no other parties holding any seats.
Hun Sen's authoritarian government has been in power for almost three decades and is known for intimidating opponents. The strong showing by the opposition in last year's elections posed the biggest challenge to Hun Sen in years.
The opposition accused the National Election Committee of failing to operate fairly and efficiently in last year's elections. In a surprise development, the two parties agreed last week to appoint Pung Chhiv Kek, the outgoing head of the local human rights group Licadho, to a so-called neutral seat on the election committee.
The 71-year-old activist has been a critic of Hun Sen's government for more than two decades, and helped build her organization into an effective and respected watchdog.

Hun Sen's party holds 68 seats in the National Assembly, which is set to open on Friday, according to opposition whip Son Chhay. Lawmakers are to choose the assembly's president and vice presidents, along with the chairmen of 10 committees.

Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha by joining the” Rubber Stamp” Parliament you conceded the election lost of 2013 by taking CNRP 55 and CPP 68 and agreed to next election not till 2018. The National Assembly President is the deaf guy Heng Samrin (he hears no evil) and he will close the Assembly door and Hun Sen will punish the dogs. The real power lays with Hun Sen and his Council of Ministers. There are no real powers in the Parliament but only for shows. What you both are doing is legitimizing the Hun Sen regime. The regime is short on money to run the government and CNRP leaders gave them the lifeline and now they can borrows from Western nations. Yours actions betrays the Khmer people and the Cambodian nation. You both have no courage to face up to Hun Sen/CPP. There are no longer any trusts from the Khmer people of CNRP leaderships.
CNRP leaders need to stop making excuses for joining the Parliament. Some people are supporting that decision because they wanted to keep Khmer people united and needed some hope. The big question would be if the CNRP leaders did sold out to Hun Sen regime and could you still support them?
All Khmer check out what this traitor trying to do, per Cambodia Daily News- CNRP President Sam Rainsy has sought to circumvent the methodical “working groups” established to finalize the details of the deal struck with Prime Minister Hun Sen by sending his own draft reforms to the government for approval. Is this a traitor or not? Rainsy’s hastily join the Parliament because he sold out to CPP and he want to cashed out his check. Did CNRP Standing Committee approved of the deal? These members are includes Yim Sovvan, Son Chay, Mu Sohua, Kem Sokha’s daughter, and others top member of which total of the group about 20 people. Sam Rainsy’s and Kem Sokha are cowards, traitors and liars. How can anyone trust these CNRP leaders and their 55 MP’s? CNRP leaders had done nothing but broken promises and continuing to lies.
