Jodhi Meares an ambassador for Cambodian Children's Trust
IF Jodhi Meares could sing at a Sydney concert being held for disadvantaged Cambodian children, she would.
“I’m tone deaf, ” she said, with a huge laugh. “But I was a rapper in a band back in the day.”
The businesswoman and designer, who is engaged to singer Jon Stevens, said she leaves the musical side to her fiancé. But she revealed Stevens has penned a number of songs about her.
Meares might not be lending her own singing voice to a major charity concert being held in May but she is now a high-profile ambassador for it. And some of the profits from her new fashion line The Upside also go to the Cambodian Childrens Trust.
“I knew I wanted to do something with underprivileged children,” she said.
Meares has forged a solid friendship with Tara Winkler, the 28-year-old former Bondi girl, who established the Cambodian Children’s Trust when she was only 21 to help support disadvantaged children there.
Winkler is now based full-time in Cambodia, but she has flown in to Sydney ahead of a major concert for her charitable foundation and met up with Meares.
The event, with headliners including Jimmy Barnes, Lior and Prinnie Stevens, will be held at Enmore Theatre in Newtown on May 21.
Apart from throwing her support behind the charity and forging her way into the US market with The Upside, Meares is excited about her planned wedding to Stevens. She was, of course, previously married to James Packer and the pair are still said to be good friends.
“It’s not a secret, we’re very happy,” Meares said of her romance with Stevens.
Talking about Stevens’ loyal base of Noiseworks fans, Meares said “I think I’ve got half of the women in Australia off-side, I apologise for that, I’m very, very lucky,” she said.
