CPP, CNRP come closer to agreement

Give our kids a better deal
PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) – The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party came closer to agreement in order to end the current post-election dispute, according to a senior CPP official.

The working groups of Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) introduced three formulas for National Election Committee (NEC) reform and adjust election date.

The agreements came after behind-the door meeting between working groups of the two parties on April 8.

The two parties agreed to change election date to be held before July as in this month there are a lot of rain and the Cambodian farmers are more engaged in rice plantation, said Sik Bunhok, a senior CPP official who is a member of Joint Committee for Election Reform.

He said the change of election date didn’t mean a new election in fifth mandate.

Sam Rainsy raised three possibilities for the NEC reform. 1) The two parties can choose members from their own parties to form the National Election Committee. 2) Choose independent individuals as well as people from the two parties to form the National Election Committee. 3) Choose all independent individuals to form the NEC.
