Sam Rainsy says attacks on Vietnamese 'isolated' incidents

Give our kids a better deal
PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Opposition leader Sam Rainsy has denied fomenting hatred towards ethnic Vietnamese in Cambodia, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported Wednesday.

The head of the National Rescue Party, currently on a visit to Australia, was quoted as saying that recent Cambodian attacks on Vietnamese were "very isolated incidents."

Asked if the attacks were aimed at illegal immigrants, Sam Rainsy reportedly said that Cambodia had a "tradition" of violence and impunity.

"When thousands of Cambodians die of violence, especially political violence, nobody says anything," he said. "But when there is any isolated incident related to other people, you point the finger."
