Cambodian opposition leader warns of another mass protest

January 8, 2014
Global Post
Cambodian opposition leader Sam Rainsy said Tuesday his party will organize another mass protest in the not-so-distant future to demand a fresh election.
"We will have opportunity to organize new mass protest," Sam Rainsy told reporters at the headquarters of his Cambodian National Rescue Party, adding that care must be taken to avoid violence.
Starting Dec. 15, Sam Rainsy and his deputy Kem Sokha led rallies for 21 consecutive days at the Freedom Park in central Phnom Penh, ending Saturday when authorities evicted the protesters.
In the wake of the disputed results of the July 28 general election, which gave victory to the Cambodian People's Party of Prime Minister Hun Sen, the CNRP has been boycotting sessions of the National Assembly.
Claiming the election was rigged by the CPP, the opposition party demands reform of the National Election Committee and the holding of a fresh election.
Sam Rainsy and Hun Sen met twice in September to settle their parties' differences, but to no avail.
They are under increasing domestic and international pressure to resume talks, especially after a clash last Friday between protesters and security forces in a suburb of Phnom Penh left four people dead and 37 others injured.
Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha said their party is gathering evidence against authorities in that case and will file a lawsuit at the International Criminal Court at The Hague, arguing that Cambodian courts are not neutral.
But Phay Siphan, spokesman of the Council of Ministers, said that security personnel merely defended themselves and that the ICC has no jurisdiction over such a case.

for the sake of the country , these two leaders should just get over it...go back to work on new laws which will prevent another stolen election to ever happen again in the future..when Al gore lost the election to Bush [ stolen ] and the supreme court decided in Bush's favor , mr Gore just bowed out gracefully.. of course bush ruined the country but that is another story; and if the khmer people thinks that election in the US is any better they are in for a shock if they know the truth... Obama was not chosen by the people , Hillary clinton was about to win the candidacy for the democrats but a person of higher power who runs the world did not want her.. he called both, Obama and hillary in for a secret special meeting one evening. and when they both emerged out of the meeting Hillary bowed out allowing Obama to run unopposed against the republican candidate... the media knews about the meeting it was reported briefly then no more discussion about it . the reporters were all silenced on this matter... Plus the president of the US is not elected directly by the people... he or she is elected by the electoral college ....even if he or she wins by popular votes [ people votes] the electoral college could decide to choose the loser instead to be president [ rule sets forth by the constitution of the US ]

9:45 am, whatever drugs you are taking, please go back to your doctor and have him give you another prescription. Spewing out nonsense without substantiation is purely fabrication and personal concoction. Your logic is way off base. Your reasoning is pretty irrational yo say the least.

@9:45am, a good point. We can ask Sam Rainsy not to be weaker than a woman, and follow the example of Hillary Clinton to bow out for Obama.

Last year, Sam Rainsy told Mr. Hun Sen not to be weak than a woman, asking him to hold a reelection like Yingluck.

---------------
Original text:
Speaking to a crowd of more than 15,000 Cambodia National Rescue Party supporters in Siem Reap on Tuesday, Rainsy called on the premier to follow Yingluck’s lead.

“I appeal to Prime Minister Hun Sen, and I ask one thing: Mr Hun Sen, don’t be weaker than a woman,” he said to cheers and laughter.

“He should look at our neighbouring country, there is a female prime minister in Thailand named Yingluck Shinawatra. Please be proud of [her]. People protested to demand that she resign from power and then she agreed to call a new election.”

Rainsy then asked the crowd: “Why is Hun Sen weaker than a woman?”

Raisy when are you going to sacrifice your self, go to hell and leave the poor Khmer alone, because of you the poor Khmer have been gunned down like animals. How can you live with your self by seeing child and wife of the death suffer so much hardship. Please stop incited hatred among Khmer and Khmer, for your political gains.

All of the above commentators are pro cpp except 11:06am. What happen to all other true khmer hearts that care about Cambodia and her people? We need to regroup and shut these pro cpp up once for all because they are disgrace to khmer race.

Rainsy flip-flopped with his command, "stop striking", now he threatened to call for strike again. That's weak. Mr. Hun Sen is winning big. With just one crack-down, he already forced his opponent to his will.

Mr. Hun Sen is an expert in politics. He caused Rainsy to call off the meeting for negotiation, then he asked Rainsy for negotiation. Rainsy cannot flip-flopped again. The international communities asked both sides to negotiate again but Rainsy refused to talk. Mr. Hun Sen looks pretty and chuckles on his play.

Mr. Hun Sen is the smartest Khmer of all. With a meager defense budget of 150 millions US dollars a year, years ago, he managed to give the Thai army a bloody nose. Know this, Thai army had a budget of 5 billions US dollars, more than 32 times of Cambodia's defense budget.

A couple days after the bloody nose, Thai army copied Mr. Hun Sen's military tactics and ordered the exact same multiple rocket launchers to counter Cambodia.

Rainsy claimed to have an MBA and worked in the bank, but why would he demand $160 dollars a month? At this rate, Cambodia will lose jobs to many countries which have lower minimum rates such as Bangladesh (at $65), Burma ($15), Laos, Vietnam (at $90 - $125).

Rainsy wants the power for himself and makes promise which would destroy Cambodia's future reputation and business.

How would you feel, after you move into a place then the landlord double your rent. It is a real hassle for you to move. The business who brought factories to Cambodia will be very upset if the wages got doubled.

You don't like the job, quit, get a different jobs. Over time, the owners will raise your salaries to keep you. That is what Mr. Hun Sen is trying to protect.

Rainsy is selling the future of Cambodia to the ignorant workers for his gain in power. That's very wrong. Mr. Hun Sen is protecting the future of Cambodia.

P.S. I am a special Asian who can play chess without looking at the board. My learning rate is about 100 times faster than all the Khmer I met. I read thousands and thousands of books so I do know a lot.

9:45 am. don't compare American court to Hun sen's kangaroo court. Also, please don't compare American election committee to the NEC (national election cheaters) of Cambodia. American court is an independent court and the judges are neutral. The same with the American election committee. The Cambodian court is Hun Sen's kangaroo court and the judges are Hun Sen's puppets. The same with the NEC. This is the difference between the Cambodian and American elections.
