Cambodian, Myanmar artists to jointly perform at Angkor Wat Temple

Written by Xinhua
Cambodian and Myanmar artists will jointly perform at Cambodia's Angkor Wat Temple, one of the World Heritage sites, on Dec. 5 and 6, organizers said Tuesday.
Kerya Chau Sun, spokesperson for the Apsara National Authority which is in charge of protection and management of the Angkor Archaeological Park, said the concert of contemporary and classical music will feature the Royal Ballet of Cambodia and the Myanmar National Symphony Orchestra joined by the French string quartet Le Quatuor Des quilibres.
"It will be the first time that Cambodian and Myanmar artists perform together at the sacred precinct of the Angkor Wat Temple," she said in a press conference.
She said the event will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the International Coordinating Committee for the Safeguarding and Development of the Historic Site of Angkor, classified as a World Heritage site, and the 10th anniversary of the classification by UNESCO of the Royal Ballet of Cambodia as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
French composer Odile Perceau, instructor for the Myanmar National Symphony Orchestra, said the concert at the Angkor will be an exceptional event.
"For the first time, the Cambodian government has authorized the holding of this unique concert on the first floor of the site of Angkor Wat," she said.
The event is co-organized by the Khloros Concert and the Apsara National Authority with the support of UNESCO and the French Embassy to Cambodia.
The Angkor archeological park, inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1992, is the kingdom's largest cultural tourist destination. It is located about 315 km northwest of Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia.
The site attracted 2 million foreign visitors last year, and some 1.57 million in the first nine months of this year, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
