Condition:
In the twenty eight years of Hun Xen and Youns we’ve gone
through hell and are dying of slow death. Some Khmers sleep with the thugs and
our blood enemy to make profit, while helpless Khmers are taking the beating
because we are traumatized and stricken with fear from the previous experience
of war and genocide, and could not muster the strength to stand up and fight
for change. Hun Xen and Youns know our gut
instinct so well that they would routinely slam us with threat of WAR every
time we try to speak up. So we’ve been lying down taking the punishment from “above”
hoping to just exist from one day to the next to avoid the return of the
specter of “War” they terrorize us with.
When will the Khmers realize that we are "at war
already" with a Youn-supported regime that rules Cambodia with an iron
fist? At what point will we realize that the WAR we fear, IS ALREADY TAKING
PLACE AND WE ARE LOSING? Why don't Khmers understand that FORCE is being used
by only ONE side and that is ― the Hun Xen-Youn establishment!
The monopoly
on power, domination, and exploitation of Cambodia must be broken or there is
no hope.
Catalyst:
To start a fire you need fuel materials, oxygen rich
environment, and heat.
In my assessment we do have plenty of fuel (our patriotism) and the environment
we’re currently in is rich in oxygen (our unity). It appears that we do have
some heat but not at a
level known as flash-point
where atoms in the surrounding air become supercharged and ignite the fuel into
a raging fire in a split second, with the help of oxygen. The pre-election
event currently seen in the media seems to raise my hope that maybe the mercury
is rising, and Hun Xen’s brutal behavior and miscalculation following Sam Rainsy’s
arrival in the Kingdom may just send the mercury screaming beyond the flash-point —
that heat is our passion to live as a free nation. The “Cambodia’s Day of Rage” shall
begin then or never!
Conflict: A time for peace and a time for war
It was said that under the Nazis, the Jews of Warsaw
numbered over 500,000. They were depleted with regular deportations aided by
Judenrats (Jewish leaders). The Revolt in Warsaw began when the Jewish
population was down to 50,000 (or 90% murdered)…..and you know the rest of the
story.
At what
point is it OK to rebel? When is civil disobedience OK? When is war a better
course than suicide?
All throughout history there have been rebels and loyalists.
History is usually written by the victors but truly there is seldom a
universally accepted moral standard as to what “a proper rebellion is and is
not”.
I can say with absolute certainty, however, that Khmers must
live in freedom and democracy for Cambodia to exist. Our existence is more
righteous than any other struggle for national liberation in the history of the
world. But “I” doesn’t weigh much, “I” can only be MAD AS HELL but that won’t
scare the beast — it has to
be “us”.
According to folks in the ivory towers non-violent resistance is the key to
success. But there is one essential requirement for destabilizing an
authoritarian regime and that
is for a determined group of Khmers to be willing to go to Prey Sar, be beaten
by Xen’s goon squad, and possibly be killed in the pursuit of freedom.
Knowing the recent history of China (Tiananmen Square) and
Syria (Hama) I’d be hard at work sketching plan “B” just to be realistic.
Half measures will not work. Either we want to bring down
this tyrant or we don't.
The decision
is ours.
