Phnom
Penh, 14th August 2013 (The Cambodia Herald) - The
Opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) will send their
complaints to the National Election Committee (NEC) in order to reject
the results of last month's parliamentary election, an opposition
official said Wednesday.
Koy Bunroeun, opposition party senior official, said that his party will send their complaints this afternoon to the NEC.
The
NEC had announced the preliminary election results on Monday, showing
that the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) had won a majority vote in
Cambodia's fifth general election.
The committee showed that the CPP received 3,235,969 votes while the opposition CNRP only gained 2,946,176 votes.
According to the initial tally, the CPP had won 68 seats while the CNRP only gained 55 seats in parliament.
However
the opposition party immediately rejected the NEC's preliminary
official results after it was announced by the state-owned National
Television of Cambodia, TVK and two national radio stations Monday
morning, saying that there were too many serious irregularities in the
general election.
"The CNRP is very sorry and opposed to the
National Election Committee (NEC) for releasing the preliminary election
results in a situation that the poll irregularities on the election day
have not been either investigated or resolved," Kem Sokha, CNRP acting
president, said in a press conference on Monday. - See more at:
