Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said Sunday that Japan
will continue to support Cambodia in its economic development after its
peace process, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said.
During roughly 30 minutes of talks held on the sidelines of
Association of Southeast Asian Nations-related meetings, Kishida and
Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong agreed on the need for more
Japanese companies to invest in Cambodia, and Namhong expressed hope for
further investment by Japan.
As China has continued to exert increased influence in the South
China Sea, Kishida stressed the importance of "rule of law," according
to the ministry.
The ministers also shared a recognition that next month's
national election in Cambodia needs to be held fairly. Namhong said his
country will conduct the election in a manner that is fair, democratic
and transparent.
