BANGKOK, 5 April 2013 - Prime Minister
Yingluck Shinawatra has confirmed that the relations between Thailand
and Cambodia are still strong despite an upcoming gathering by a group
of activists near the disputed border tomorrow.
Supporters of the Thai Patriots Network are set to stage a
demonstration this Saturday at Phum Saron village in Si Sa Ket province,
adjacent to the overlapping zone on the Thai-Cambodian border. The
gathering is reportedly aimed to protest the International Court of
Justice (ICJ)’s deliberation of the Phra Viharn Temple case.
PM Yingluck said she was not aware of the planned gathering.
Nonetheless, she explained that only testimonies by the two nations will
be provided to the ICJ during this time and the ruling will not be
passed down from the court just yet. She believes it will be until the
end of this year that the verdict will become clear.
The premier insisted that the relationship between Thailand and
Cambodia has been strong and instructed related officials to create a
correct understanding among the locals about the situation. In the
meantime, she affirmed that security units are still performing their
duties as usual.
