Opposition warns it would protest again

Give our kids a better deal
Yim Sovann, the spokesman of the National Rescue Party (NRP)

PHNOM PENH( The Cambodia Herald)-- A senior official of the National Rescue Party (NRP) warned it would hold "another demonstration shortly" if the National Election Committee (NEC) does not accept its requests.

1.5 million people couldn't find their names in the registration lists, Yim Sovann, the spokesman of the NRP, said Monday, this shows the abuse of the constitution and human rights and it is the responsibility of the NEC to fix the problem.

Yim Sovann, who demanded for the reforms of the NEC for a more free and fair process in the up-coming election, said, the opposition requested to renew the registration lists so that 1.5 million people could vote.

Some recommendations of the U.N. and national and international non-government organizations were accepted by the NEC and had also made changes to their regulations and procedures for the National Election.

However, the NEC said, they could not accept the request demanded by the opposition to renew of the registration lists and  postpone election day.

Around 2,000 demonstrators gathered at Democratic Park to participate in the demonstration on Wednesday to demand for the reforms of the national election committee.
