With the International Court of Justice’s hearing on the territorial
dispute over the Preah Vihear temple a little more than two weeks away,
followers of the case can keep abreast of the proceedings without
waiting for the daily news coverage.
The live feed, courtesy of
the ICJ’s website, www.icj-cij.org, will show the full four days of
hearings, which can also be seen at webtv.un.org.
At The
Hague-based court, Cambodia representatives kick off oral arguments on
Monday, April 15, at 10am Central European Time, which is 3pm in Phnom
Penh.
Thailand takes centre stage two days later, on April 17,
at the same time. Each morning session lasts three hours.
Representatives of both countries also have an afternoon session on
their respective days at 3pm (8pm in Cambodia). The second and final
round of arguments starts on April 18 for Cambodia, and April 19 for
Thailand. The two-hour session begins each day at 8pm Cambodia time.
At
issue is a 4.6-square-kilometre stretch of land encircling the temple
that Cambodia and Thailand both claim. The ICJ awarded the temple to
Cambodia in 1962, but the hearing deals specifically with the
surrounding land.

The International Court of Justice's hearing on
the territorial dispute between Thailand and Cambodia over Preah Vihear
temple on April 15-19 will be broadcast live to Thailand from The
Hague, Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said on Sunday.
Mr Surapong made the announcement before attending the mobile cabinet meeting in Chachoengsao province.
The ICJ is scheduled to hold the hearing on the Thai-Cambodian
dispute over Preah Vihear temple on April 15-19 when the two countries
are scheduled to make oral statements to the court.
Mr Surapong said the Thai oral statement was approved by the National
Security Council on March 29 and will be tabled for cabinet endorsement
Sunday.
He asked Thais to have confidence in the legal team defending Thailand in the ICJ.
Mr Surapong said the court hearing will be broadcast live from The
Hague to Thailand via NBT or Channel 11 and translated by staff of the
United Nations.
The legal team will also report the summary of the hearing in the evening of each day, he said.

Minister Phongthep Thepkanjana, who is leading Thailand's legal team in
the Phra Viharn temple case against Cambodia at the International Court
of Justice (ICJ), has said that the government will air the hearings
live on television and radio.
According to Mr Phongthep, the live
broadcast would cover parts of the hearing session, with Thai
translations voiced over the ICJ medium - French. However, he said it
has not been decided yet which parts of the hearings will be covered on
live broadcast, and which channel will be asked to air it.
As the head of the Thai legal team, Mr
Phongthep stated that the team would fight the case with "utmost
determination and care".
The legal case between Thailand and Cambodia is a result of
Cambodia's request in 2011 for the ICJ to order Thai troops out of the
areas around THE Phra Viharn temple.
Between 2008 and 2011, the Thai government, pressured by nationalist
groups, sent in troops to areas near the Phra Viharn temple and expelled
Cambodian settlements in the areas. Resulting clashes between Cambodian
and Thai troops saw injuries and deaths, including civilian death, on
both sides.

គួរបញ្ជាក់ថា ក្រោយឆ្នាំ១៩៦២ដែលICJបានសម្រេចឲ្យកម្ពុជាឈ្នះក្ដីជាម្ចាស់ ប្រាសាទព្រះវិហារ ដ៏ចំណាស់របស់ខ្លួន គឺទើបតែនៅ ឆ្នាំ២០០៨ ប៉ុណ្ណោះ ដែលបញ្ហាត្រូវបានថៃសើរើឡើងវិញ ខណៈដែលកម្ពុជាបញ្ចូលប្រាសាទនេះ ជាសម្បត្តិបេតិកភណ្ឌពិភពលោក ។ ការទាមទារប្រាសាទនិង ចំណែកដី នៅជុំវិញប្រាសាទព្រះវិហារ ទាំងនេះបានក្លាយជាបញ្ហាដែលនាំទៅរកការប្រឈមដាក់គ្នាដោយអាវុធ ដែលធ្វើឲ្យភាគីទាំងសង្ខាងស្លាប់។ ហើយនៅដើមឆ្នាំ២០០៩ កម្ពុជាបានដាក់ពាក្យបណ្ដឹងទៅកាន់ICJ ដើម្បីឲ្យមានការបកស្រាយសាលក្រមឆ្នាំ១៩៦២ នោះ។

The Temple and the land around the area was/is always belong to Cambodia regardless of the ruling from ICJ.Khmers owned the land all the way to Bank kork =Boueng kork meaning in Khmer language the lake of the grass that we called "kork" Also khmers named Preah Vihea in one of her province among twenty four provinces of her land called Preah Vihea province not only that in Khmer paper money also had the iconic picture of her Temple (Preah Vihea) its too sad the Siamese always wanted to steals more land from Cambodia,the same thing as Yuon always wants to steal Khmer's land as well,these two barbaric's race will not stop at nothing because they were/are conquerers.Please ICj for the sake if peace do not rules in the favor of the thieves [Siam] because Khmers were the rightful owner of the land and the Temple long before Siam came to existence we called ourselves back then as KHMER'S EMPIRE our ancestors build ANkorwatt and Preah Vihea to worship Hindu's gods. Please rule in favor of Cambodia.Thank you.
