PHNOM PENH, 6 April 2013 (The Cambodia Herald) -- 23 Cambodian migrant workers who
were swindled and forced to work on Thai vessels were rescued in the
Republic of Mauritius on the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar.
Koy Kuong, spokesman for Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said Saturday that the rescue was made with the cooperation from the Cambodian Embassy in Malaysia and Mauritius authorities.
He said, Cambodian authorities are closely working with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), to repatriate the workers and bring them back home.
11 workers will return to Cambodia next week on Tuesday while 11 others will return in two days after, Kuong said, one more worker will be repatriated as soon as possible.
