Supporters are protesting outside while court of appeal hears case of Beehive radion owner Mam Sonando

PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Hundreds of supporters from the Democrats Association gathered outside of the court of Appeals Monday to protest the hearing of Beehive radio owner, Mam Sonando.

The protesters, with banners that depicted his face, demanded his release.

Phnom Penh Municipal Court sentenced him to 20 years for his role in the secession movement in Kratie.

Khoun Phannary, deputy director of Democrats Association, said that the mass rally was aimed to ask court for his release because his health is failing.

His younger sister, Mam Masady, says that her brother should be released because he is innocent.

The Court of Appeals is scheduled to hear his case for three days.

Mam Sonando, 71, director of Democrats Association was arrested on July 15, 2012, after returning from abroad.
