PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Sam Rainsy,
President of National Rescue Party, will be visiting regional countries
from March 1 - 10 in order to meet opposition party leaders in Myanmar,
Singapore and Malaysia.
Rainsy will visit the three countries to speak about freedom and democracy, said the National Rescue Party.
He will first deliver a speech in Singapore on the basic transfer of freedom.
On March 4-5, he will be in Malaysia speaking about preparations for 13th Malaysian National Election.
In Myanmar, he will hold a news conference to share his experiences and meet with pro-democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
The statement said the Sam Rainsy aimed to examine the latest development of the democratic process in Asia.
Tith Sothea, member of the Press and Quick Reaction Unit, said that the government isn't surprised by his actions.
"What he's doing doesn't benefit anyone," he said. "We are focused on solving issues for Cambodians."
Sam Rainsy had been sentenced to 12 years for uprooting markers along the Vietnam border, forgery and disinformation.
