HARD WORK: Angie and Alan Briggs in Cambodia
A WEYMOUTH couple are thanking all those who have helped them to raise money for needy children thousands of miles away.
Angie and Alan Briggs collected almost £3,000 for youngsters in Cambodia through a series of fundraising events last summer.
Initially they wanted to donate the money to the ODA orphanage in the
village of Sras Srang, which they came across during a round-the-world
trip in 2009.
But instead they decided to support mothers trying keep their children wherever possible.
Mrs Briggs said: “We decided to redirect the money we raised to an organisation that facilitated this way of working.
“We found out about Hagar UK from a local man who worked for them in
Cambodia for a number of years. Hagar does amazing work with families.”
Mr and Mrs Briggs presented a cheque for £2,935 to the charity’s UK representative Myriam Harley in London.
They thanked family, friends and businesses for supporting fundraising events and donating prizes.
Hagar works with women and children who have suffered extreme human
rights abuse through recovery shelters, legal support, education,
employment, health care and trauma counselling.
Mrs Briggs added: “We will now be able to help more than 200 women and children rebuild their lives.”
