PHNOM PENH, 8th January 2013 (The Cambodia Herald) - Some 135 policemen started rehearsing
next month's funeral procession for the late King Father Norodom
Sihanouk at the Olympic Stadium Tuesday.
During the procession on February 1, the King Father's coffin will be carried from the Royal Palace to a funeral pyre in a nearby park.
Some 100,000 mourners are expected to line the streets for the procession which will include Sothearos Boulevard, Wat Phnom and Norodom Boulevard.
After the procession, the body will remain at the pyre for three days for people to pay their respects ahead of the cremation on February 4.
General Chhum Savuth, deputy chief of staff of national police, told reporters that the rehearsal would last until January 16.
A big gathering is scheduled for January 29 and will be followed by an examination of uniforms two days later, he said.
The government has announced public holidays on February 1 and 4.
