WASHINGTON DC - US President Barack Obama says he wants to continue to
strengthen ties with Cambodia over his next four years in office, as
the president prepares to be sworn in Jan. 20 for a second term in
office.
“I look forward to continuing and strengthening the relationship between our two countries over the next four years,” Obama said in a courtesy letter to Prime Minister Hun Sen.
Obama was responding to the Cambodian premier’s own letter congratulating the US leader on his election victory.
Obama briefly met with Hun Sen on the sidelines of an Asean summit in Cambodian in November, telling him that Cambodia’s rights record and election system remain a concern for the US.
“Working together, I am confident we will be able to successfully confront the many challenges we are facing around the world,” Obama wrote in his letter.
Under the Obama administration, Cambodia has received increased diplomatic attention. The US administration is making a concerted effort to focus on all of Asia, including Southeast Asia and Cambodia, where China’s influence has grown in recent years.

Dear All,
The response letter of President Obama was just
a generic letter he practically replies to any foreign leaders.
However when the US President " closed the doors and beat the Dog ", he emphatically stressed to Hun Sen that the abuses of human rights and democratic principles are the IMPEDIMENT of the
building of the relationship.
