101st Field Artillery rehearsal planned for next Friday

PHNOM PENH, 18 January 2013 (The Cambodia Herald) - The Ministry of National Defense says the 101st Field Artillery will hold a shooting rehearsal next Friday ahead of the royal funeral procession on February 1.

In a letter dated Thursday, Royal Cambodian Armed Forces Commander in Chief Pol Saroeun said the rehearsal will take place at Porsen Chey District, where the Special Forces Airborne 911 is based.

He urged residents and authorities not to be "surprised" by the sound of artillery, adding that "cooperation from the people will bring success and high safety."

Prime Minister Hun Sen said on January 8 that the 101st Field Artillery would fire shots when the coffin of the King Father is removed from the Royal Palace on February 1, when it reaches the funeral pyre the same day and when the cremation takes place on February 4.

In a meeting with deputy prime ministers Men Sam On, Sok An, Yim Chhay Ly and Nhiek Bun Chhay on Monday, Royal Palace Minister Kong Som Ol said there would be two rehearsals on January 19 and 26 ahead of the real procession on February 1.

The first rehearsal will be from Phnom Penh Supreme Court to Wat Ounalom and the second from the Royal Palace to Wat Phnom, he said.
