Hun Sen opposes titanium mining in Koh Kong [But you are the one who provided land concessions in the area]

KOH KONG (The Cambodia Herald) – Prime Minister Hun Sen voice strong opposition Monday to any investment in titanium mining in Koh Kong province.

"Titanium deposits underground in Chi Phat are worth about $30 billion according to a study. But about 20,000 hectares of rainforest would have to be bulldozed," he told the inauguration of a special economic zone.

"Let’s keep it under the ground," he said. "Koh Kong is no longer a pathetic place. It has natural tourism sites. Foreign tourists really like to visit and stay at Chi Phat National Park and it would be a disaster if the water there is turbid."

Hun Sen also reiterated his candidature in next year's elections. "If citizens support me, I will continue," he said.
