[South Australia's] Dinner raises funds for Cambodia plan

By Pat Welford, Food and Hospitality, Kingscote Campus

Thomas Stocker was one of the students who travelled to Cambodia in December 2011 to help with the Cambodian Rebuilding Program. For his Year 11 Community Studies, he decided that he would like to have a dinner to raise funds for other students to go to Cambodia.
The dinner was held on Tuesday November 13. Thomas with the help of the Yr 11 Food and Hospitality work group and Jill Wilkinson served 32 people in the Home Economics Centre at Kingscote Campus a three course Cambodian dinner. The room was beautifully decorated creating a lovely ambience for the evening.
The students delivered punch and salsa followed by the meal using authentic Asian flavours. There were many wonderful comments from guests including “Beautiful choice of food, authentic flavours.”  “Professional looking kitchen and outfits.”
The evening included a presentation by Lucy Kempster and Thomas. Lucy was one of the students who also travelled to Cambodia.
The slide show was very much appreciated and enjoyed by guests. They commented on the excellent variety of topics covered by the presentation and how it fitted in nicely with the food, atmosphere and music for the night.

We were very pleased to raise about $500 from the evening.
We thank the many people who worked together to make this dinner possible and successful. We especially thank Jill Wilkinson, who has worked with Thomas all year to help him organise the event; Deidre, from Acacia Apartments, and David and Chi, from Bella Restaurant for their support, and Penny Horne for volunteering to photograph the event.
