Obama given servant's greeting by Cambodian first lady.

Obama made history when he became the first American president to visit Cambodia, but the president was the victim of a diplomatic snub at the hands of Cambodian first lady Bun Rany, the UK Daily Mail reported Thursday.
According to the Daily Mail, Obama "went straight from the airport to
a meeting with Prime Minister Hun Sen that White House officials
described as tense, with Obama emphasizing his concerns over the
Cambodian leader's poor democratic leadership model and the country's
worsening human rights abuses."
After the meeting, the two men changed shirts in preparation for dinner.
Before the dinner, Sen introduced Obama to his wife, Bun Rany, who
greeted Obama with a traditional "sampeah" pressed-hands greeting that
is normally reserved for servants.
"Was the first lady getting her own back over the president's harsh
words earlier to her husband or did she simply forget that she was
shaking hands with the leader of the free world?" the Daily Mail asked.
According to the Daily Mail, the slight was not noticed by Obama or
his advisers, but it "would have been picked up by a great many people
throughout Southeast Asia region."
The Gateway Pundit's Jim Hoft offered a simple explanation that even American liberals can accept.
"She must be racist," he wrote.

It is not a racist gesture from her. She was very happy and also was surprising and not expected that kind of welcome by the US President.
Have seen most of the time, that Mr. Hun Sen himself and other higher rankings of the Cambodian government, they always shaked hand and did not act the US President, to their follow Khmer people.
Mr. Obama, the US President is a very well educated gentleman. He sent a signal and teach us the Khmer people around the world, that we should keep our culture alive.
A great lesson from the US President to all other Khmer or Cambodian born, who always did not want to act, that kind of welcoming.
Bun Rany is very lowly-educated so she does not understand or does not know about diplomatic protocol. She is a Khmer and she shamed Cambodia and the Cambodian people because she had shown disrespect to the most of powerful man in the world. Her "Sampeah" is very rude and informal, while Obama's "Sampeah" is very formal and courteous. Bun Rany had not only shamed herself, but shamed the whole Cambodian nation and the whole Khmer population.
First of all,the article is freaking's wrong.Tell me who was a master and who was a servant in this gesture of greeting [someday]in khmers'tradition?
1, didn't see anything is wrong about Obama's gesture nor Bunranys' gesture on this greeting to one another,they both respected each other.
2,I didn't think racist is playing any role in this greeting gesture whatsoever by judging or lookking at the picture of greeting performed by these individual.
3,I don't think that the writer of this article understand anything about khmers'tradition of greeting [sompeah] he/she assuming that the gesture of greeting between Obama and Bunrany is playing a racist card or "servant and master greeting"This guy that wrote an article above is stupid or perhaps wants to get attention a wrong stupid way.
conclusion;I don't think that anything inappropriate about this greeting,I think they both did what is supposed to be done by khmers tradition.I just want to say that I didn't like Bunrany too, but to say that she is racist according to her greeting gesture was completely,insanely wrong,unacceptable.My question to the writer is:Are you real Khmer? I Totally agree, i hate especially western foriegn flith who rather lecture us on our protocals, since when they did good for us? last time they spent time even telling us not use the word yuon as it is racist to ethnic viets? wht about viet and thai call us Khamen or Mien wht dont these stupid westerners lecture the viets and the thai.
And majority of westernwho go and live in khmer dont even bother learning khmer or our culture they they dare to open their mouth, them and their multicultural bull-shit. and funny things most who learn khmer language and culture are people from asia, cambodia maybe multi-ethnic but will never be multicultural.
as i say get rid of no proviet prochina pro USA and everything.

Rany has never learned the different types of greeting in traditional Khmer. No one dare to teach/tell nor she has interest to learn neither. In everyday life of her, she never knows what she does wrong, everything she has done, she is being told is right.

This article "Racist" is unacceptable, as far as I know I have seen another photo of her making a proper greeting to Obama, there is nothing wrong with her greeting. You can't judge her by a single photo. Now we can see that how easily the author manipulate the situation from a single shot of photo. This has to be stop.

Although I am not HUN SENIST (I even hate him for his leadership) I totally agree with you. Even we have different political views we must be honest to ouselve and to others.
The Sampeah is very well known to all khmer that is a sign of traditional respect.
Obama know how to respect other cultures. He came to Cambodia and greating the way Cambodians do. He is very respectful man.
Bun rany and Hun sen should learn how to greeted Khmer way.
