Khy Dana, a prominent tycoon’s bad boy son faces an attempted murder charge. He alleged drove his car into a police compound during a drunken rage as he chased down a man seeking refuge there.

Fresh out of a stint in Phnom Penh’s Prey Sar prison, Khy Dana found himself cuffed again after allegedly screeching his Land Cruiser to a halt inside Pailin provincial police headquarters in pursuit of a man that proved offensive, police and court officials said.

Pailin provincial prosecutor Chum Sensathea said the 27-year-old was immediately put under arrest and confessed the attempt to mow down 24-year-old Phang Nara during a high-speed chase that ensued after a highway spat broke out between the two.

“He does not seem really scared of authorities, as he drove his car and tried to hit the victim inside the compound of police headquarters,” he said.

Dana had recently been released from Prey Sar, Sensathea said, though he could not elaborate on the reasons for his incarceration or the time he served.

Kreng Tieng, deputy director of the provincial police force’s central justice office, said the dispute erupted on the road from Phnom Penh to Pailin, a route Dana frequently travelled as construction supervisor for his father’s firm Constructions Co. Ltd.

Nara, he said, had enraged Dana by using “improper words”.

“They have never known [each other] and never had a dispute before, but the incident came from a war of words between the two sides, and the suspect seems really cruel,” he said.

His father, Khy Pov, could not be reached for comment.
