SIHANOUKVILLE (The Cambodia Herald) – An estimated 20,000 people
visited Sihanoukville on the first day of the three-day Water Festival
holiday, officials said Wednesday.
Seng Kha, the provincial tourism department chief, said similar numbers were expected on Wednesday and Thursday.
Beach vendors said they were not happy as prices had been fixed by provincial authorities.
"We cannot raise prices as we wish because authorities have ordered vendors and restaurants everywhere to show food prices on menus," said a vendor named Sokunthea, noting that market prices for food and other products had risen.
The government has canceled boat races in Phnom Penh for this year's Water Festival as a sign of respect for the late King Father who is still being mourned at the Royal Palace.
