Beehive Radio Director Mam Sonando

PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) - Police clashed with Mam Sonando supporters Tuesday after blocking the road in front of Phnom Penh Municipal Court ahead of a hearing for the Beehive Radio director.

Sources said the clashes occurred at the Kong Hing intersection about 500 meters from the court.

Journalists were barred from the court along with hundreds of Mam Sonando's supporters including lawmakers.

Supporters held lotuses and wore white shirts with pictures of bees. Another 100 protestors from two property development sites gathered nearby.

The 72-year-old activist, who is also director of the Democrats Association, was arrested in July on charges of fomenting a secession in Kratie province.

Defense lawyer Sok Sam Eoun said Mam Sonando faced up to 30 years in prison if found guilty.
