E. Asian economic ministers discuss trade

BEIJING, Sept. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- The East Asia Summit economic ministers meeting has been held in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Thursday's meeting was chaired by Cambodian Minister of Commerce Cham Prasidh. Chinese Minister of Commerce, Chen Deming, also made a speech at the meeting and expressed his welcome to Russia's entry to the World Trade Organization, and added that China firmly supports Laos's application.

Chen said China is deeply concerned about the long stalemate of the Doha Development Round of WTO talks, which began in 2001. He said China remains open-minded toward new efforts to promote an agreement. Chen said East Asia Summit countries share common interests in the Doha Round, and China is willing to work with all parties concerned to complete the talks.
Economic ministers at the meeting exchanged views on issues influencing the regional and global economy. They reaffirmed a commitment to avoid trade protectionism, and to promote and explore the Doha talks on the basis of transparency and inclusiveness.
