Cambodia is trying to attract foreign investors
with manufacturing bases in neighbouring countries, with promises their
factories would be safer from flooding.
The Phnom Penh Post reported that Commerce Minister Cham Prasidh is
appealing to foreign investors with production bases in neighbouring
countries, particularly Thailand, to expand into Cambodia because
their factories would be less vulnerable to flooding.
The commerce minister boasted that even though Cambodia also faces
floods every year, only rice fields along the Mekong River are affected.
Most factories are left untouched.
“Cambodia has great business areas, offers a better investment
climate and incentives for foreign investors. I do believe that it is a
great opportunity for other Japanese companies that have factories in
Thailand to consider Cambodia,” he said.
Hiroshi Suzuki, CEO of Business Research Institute for Cambodia
(BRIC), agreed that floods did not have a severe affect on Cambodia
compared to neighbouring countries. Infrastructure such as roads were
little damaged despite the biggest flood in 10 years the country
experienced last year.
The Cambodian government spent about US$200 million for the reconstruction of infrastructure damaged by the floods last year. Cambodia has allocated an additional $90 million for 2012 from the national budget against possible flooding in the future.

Yes, Yuon/Vietnamese folks are stupid to do bad things from the first places. That is why they deserved to be hated and be disgusted in this world. Yuon/Vietnamese (Yuon-Cambodian born) bloggers in Long Beach, CA are unbelievable and evil because they support CPP (Yuon/Vietnamese Masters' dirty plans to gain the Khmer territory for themselves) and they like to show off their dirty wealth and stupid businesses. Okay people, it's freedom of Speech. Say what you will but be professional and steer away from vulgarity. I understand the frustration and the anger about Ah Hun Sen and the parasitic Youn that are sucking off the blood of Cambodia. We can do very little at this time, however; when Ah Hun Sen is gone to hell, we Khmer will have more opportunities to clean up trashes that are festering in our country. Be positive, don't let Youn get the best of us like Ah Hun Sen and his sellout gangs.
