Vietnamese buses in losing competition with Cambodian rivals

Last Updated: Monday, August 13, 2012
Thienh Nien News
A Cambodian bus parked on Le Hong Phong Street, District 10, Ho Chi Minh City's Vietnamese bus companies operating on the Ho Chi Minh City-Phnom Penh route complain they are getting the short end of the stick since their Cambodian rivals can buy buses much cheaper and get away with violating road rules, and thus offer lower fares.

Four Vietnamese companies operate on the HCMC-Phnom Penh route -- Sapaco, a pioneer in the Vietnam-Cambodia transport market, Kumho Samco, Mai Linh, and Sinh Café.

They are ranged against a clutch of Cambodian bus operators like Mekong, Sorya, Capital, Phon Linh, Rasmey Samaky, Khai Nam, and SH 15.
According to the Vietnamese companies, the biggest advantage for the Cambodians is that they can buy buses at much lower prices in their country than in Vietnam.

Then, the Cambodian buses draw away customers because the Vietnamese police ignore their offences such as parking in prohibited areas to pick up passengers.
Many of the Cambodian bus drivers violate Vietnamese traffic laws but claim not to speak or understand Vietnamese, and are let off with a warning, they said.
According to the director of a Vietnamese bus company who required anonymity, the average ratio of Vietnamese-Cambodian buses passing through the Moc Bai Border Gate is 3-18 on normal days and 5-50 during holidays.
Ho Huy, chairman of the Mai Linh Group, said his company has temporarily suspended operation on the HCMC-Phnom Penh route to train drivers and upgrade buses.

Dont believe the Vietnamese news. The news is blaming that the Khmer are taking over the Vietnamese business and that the Khmer are bad drivers and violate the Vietnamese traffic law.

This news is nothing different to the Vietmihn Hun Sen blaming the French and the King for signing illegal treaty and the Hun Sen, win-win policy of using CASINOS as border post. CPP dogs will believe anything the Vietnamese say.

Well, if these Vietnamese can compete with the Cambodia, they always can steal from them. They're very good with that, let alone the border-land encroachment.

Right! VIETMINH borrows like Prey Norkor they borrowed from Sdach Cheyjatha II and Kosh Tral they borrowed from France colonialism now they kept it as their own land 4ever thank to Cpp Hun sen disclaimed the Island by signed the treaties and gave it to Yuon free.

Hun sen said Cambodia loses the rights to claim Kosh Tral back from Yuon and blamed the France and Sinhanuk or anyone in between, that including opposition party or Lon Nol regime.

Gimme a break!!!

Hun Sen's 5hr1/2 can be summarized in one line: forget about Koh Tral and other border points. It's signed by me representing your elected government and it's over. Stop being a drag. It's a done deal. Forget about it and go get good night sleep instead.
