PHNOM PENH, 20 August 2012 (Cambodia Herald) - Opposition parties sent documents to the
Ministry of Interior Monday seeking to register their new National
Salvation Party, a spokesman said.
Pol Horm said the new party had 83 founding members and a logo with 24 rays of light representing the provinces of Cambodia around a rising sun.
He said the letter to Interior Minister Sar Kheng named exiled opposition leader Sam Rainsy as chairman of the party committee and himself as deputy chairman. Sun Chanthy was named chief secretary while Sam Sun Thoeun, Ou Chanrith, Chea Sokuntheani and Soun Narith are additional members.
Ministry spokesman Khieu Sopheak said a decision on whether to accept or reject the application would be made within 15 days.
Sam Rainsy and Human Rights Party leader Kem Sokha last month agreed to form the new party ahead of national elections next year.
