ANG SNUOL, Kandal, 4 July 2012 (Cambodia Herald) – Some 4,000
striking workers from Taiwan-owned Tai Ying Enterprises Co and Camwell
Mfg Co withdrew Wednesday after blocking National Road No 4 for several
hours.
The withdrawal followed negotiations between Sat Sathu, undersecretary of state at the Ministry of Labor, and Rong Chhun, president of the Cambodian Federation of Unions.
Rong Chhun nevertheless maintained his threat to lead a march on Prime Minister Hun Sen’s office Thursday as well as to the US embassy and the European Union mission.

Kandal Police Commissioner Av Chamroeun said earlier that traffic was blocked for two kilometers and accused Rong Chhun of using the strikers to seek opposition political gains.
Rong Chhun said workers who blocked the highway were protesting against the deployment of loud speakers to disrupt their strike. He said the striking workers were seeking $15 in rental and transport allowances, $15 for milk for mothers who have just delivered and $15 in other bonuses each month.
Tai Yang Enterprises employs some 3,500 workers to make jeans, pants and shorts. Camwell has about 2,400 workers making the same products.
