Re: Cambodia has put Asean future in jeopardy, Editorial, July 15.
After half a century of hard work in an attempt to build regional
unity, Asean has made a mistake by allowing Cambodia to use its
self-interest to destabilise the unity of the grouping.
As the current holder of Asean's revolving chair, Cambodia has failed
to bring the participating foreign ministers to issue a joint communique
after a recent summit in Phnom Penh. Such an incident has never
happened in Asean's 45-year history.
Thus, Cambodia is being seen as trying to use its position as Asean's
chair to best suit its own interest - not that of the grouping. If this
is true, it is unbecoming and unworthy of the grouping's chair.
The incident in Phnom Penh has also dealt a big blow to Asean
secretary-general Surin Pitsuwan, who has been working hard to make the
grouping stronger and more united.
It's a pity that Dr Surin's tenure, which ends late this year, should have been marred by this incident.

Kick Cambodia out of ASEAN then.
ASEAN member states shouldn't interfere each other, but if the thread is coming from the outside, they must stick to one another. China is outside of ASEAN, and a thread to half of its members.
Let say China is going to war the Vietnam over the South China Sea. What country in Asean wants to send troops to support Vietnam? This is the issue that Vietnam want and Cambodia rejected. Cambodia does want to go to war with any country. Unity is one thing but going war is something else. If unity only means to attack China, Cambodia does not want to be part of it.
Where is the ASEAN when your country Thailand picked on Cambodia. My country Cambodia is just begin to recover from almost 4 decades of civil war and U.S and Vietnamese invasion. Cambodia is poor country and her armed forces is illed equips compare to your Thailand mighty military who wanted to be a big brother in ASEAN. Khmers will never bowed down to you Siam, despite we are weaker than you for now.
Hey so what we are looking out for our country best interest first. Don't every nation on earth do that. China is Khmer true friend through bad and good times. China and communist countries gave us weapons to kill more Siam thieves. Yea your Dr. Surin is sooo looking out for ASEAN best interest that's why he kept repeating Thai government words. Vietnam can take on China alone with US and Russian weapons. The ASEAN voice is more about solidary and moral support... no need for arms support. Cambodia is getting a mouthful of Chinese monies, sold its membership with ASEAN.

Did this ASEAN which really lead by A KA PEK as Secretary General, he is Siam. Think idiot do you think these three neighbors ( Viets, Siam, also Laos) ever want Cambodian peoples to be wealthy and strengths. Idiot Cambodia can't move forward unless we know the past. Cambodia is making the right decision to take side with a WILL BE WINNER in the South China Sea Conflict. Finally Cambodia side with a WINNER for a change. 4:52PM - Laughing my ass off. Yuon can take on China. I cant wait to see the fighting starts; within a week Chinese Army would be in Hanoi smashing the fucking yuon soldiers; and with some luck, China would take Kampuchea Krom from the yuon thieves, and give it back to Cambodia.

Youns are no pussies, you can kick asses, but you have the gun power. Buy advanced lethal weapons from America and Russia if you got the monies. Chinese are nothing compared to America.
