PHNOM PENH, May 16, 2012 (Xinhua) -- Secretary of State for Wales Cheryl
Gillan arrived here on Wednesday afternoon for a two-day visit to
promote bilateral trade and investment ties between the United Kingdom
and Cambodia, according to a press release from the UK embassy in Phnom
Penh.
Her visit is part of a tour to Thailand, Cambodia and Singapore, focusing on U.K. trade and investment in the Southeast Asian region, said the press release.
During her visit in Cambodia, Cheryl will meet members of the Royal Government of Cambodia, UK and Cambodian business leaders, and representatives of non-governmental organizations.
On May 17, together with the UK Ambassador Mark Gooding, the Secretary of State will give a speech on the UK economy and UK- Cambodia trade and investment organized by the British Business Association in Cambodia (BBAC).
She will also open a new factory for Quantum Clothing (Cambodia) Ltd.
Cheryl is the first Cabinet Minister from the Coalition Government that visits Cambodia to promote trade and investment ties.
The UK is the fourth largest investor in Cambodia. According to the reports of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, since 1994 to 2011, Cambodia has received promised investment of 2.4 billion U.S. dollars from the UK.
In terms of bilateral trade volume last year, the figure is unavailable on Wednesday.
