SIHANOUKVILLE, 17th May 2012 (Cambodia Herald) – About 800 workers in a Special
Economic Zone in Sihanoukville’s Prey Nop district have protested
against factories working on holidays.
The protest on Wednesday came after employers forced workers to complete their work during a three-day holiday for the King's Birthday, labor representatives said.
Keo Oudom, deputy chief of the provincial Department of Labor and Vocational Training, said workers agreed to finish the work to meet export orders. Some, however, disagreed and accused the factories of violating the labor law.
The protest dispersed after labor officials mediated. The identity of the factories was not immediately clear.
