PHNOM PENH, 8th May 2012 (Cambodia Herald) – The opposition Human Rights Party on
Tuesday slammed Prime Minister Hun Sen’s order to suspend economic land
concessions, accusing him of misleading the public.
"When will national leaders stop playing such games with the public?" the party asked.
Hun Sen issued the order Monday ahead of a visit by UN Special Rapporteur Surya Subedi, who is assessing the impact of such concessions on Cambodian people including minorities.
The opposition party said the government always issued directives or introduced new plans before visits by international leaders or ahead of elections.
It estimated the three million hectares in land concessions granted to 225 companies as being equivalent to the amount of land owned by 10 million people.
