Chuktema has set up a seven-member group to oversee the erection of a
statue of slain union leader Chea Vichea (pictured).
Sources said the group represented Phnom Penh Municipality, the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and the Free Trade Union of Workers
Kep Chuktema signed a resolution establishing the group on May 4 following the approval of Prime Minister Hun Sen, the sources said.
Chea Mony, who succeeded his brother as union leader, wrote to Hun Sen on December 31 seeking a square meter plot of land next to the Independence Monument.
In 2004, Chea Vichea was shot dead at a newspaper stall near the monument.
