This majestic temple is on the border of eastern Thailand and northern Cambodia. It was constructed more than 900 years ago.
As a symbol of the king's spiritual life, the temple has undergone many modifications by successive kings, which explains why it has so many peculiar andincoherent architectural styles.
For many years there have been ownership disputes between Thailand and Cambodia over the temple.
However, in 1963 Cambodia took full possession of the site.
The remains of this once majestic temple are now included in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation's list of world heritage sites.

According to Cambodian tourism, the province has some of the worst infrastructure in the country. But, if you're interested in viewing majestic Hindu sanctuaries, poor infrastructure should not be an issue.
Hiking is strongly advised as it allows you to get the true sense of nature and Cambodian culture. You could also visit other sites, including the Koh Ker Temple.
Or, like actress Angelina Jolie, you could adopt a Cambodian orphan.
