Cambodian Orphans’ Artwork Sold In Rochester

Reported by: Adam Chodak

Rochester, N.Y. – Just as impressive as the artwork displayed at an exhibit in Rochester Saturday was the story behind it.

The hands behind the paintings are those of Cambodian orphans.

The 25 children are provided shelter, food and an education through Orphans and Disabled Arts Association, or ODA.

In turn, the children are taught to paint and their work is shipped elsewhere to be sold.

The money made goes directly back to sustaining ODA.

“These children in Cambodia are not looking for hand outs, they’re looking to share their paintings with people around the world so they can go to school,” Lydia Dean, a member of GoPhilanthropic Foundation, which markets the work.

ODA was established by Leng, a Cambodian who witnessed the murder of his father by the Khmer Rouge regime years ago.

According to the GoPhilanthropic press release, the tragedy inspired Leng to help struggling children.
