PHNOM PENH, 4 May 2012 (Cambodia Herald) - Foreign Minister Hor Namhong said Friday that Cambodia was considering a strategic relationship with Japan.
Koy
Kuong (pictured), spokesman at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International
Cooperation, said the issue was discussed during a meeting with Joe
Nakano, the Japanese parliamentary vice minister for foreign affairs.
"We’re
trying to shift bilateral ties into strategic ties," Hor Namhong was
quoted as saying. "Cambodia has long had relations with Japan and the
60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries is
next year."
Kou
Kuong said Friday's talk focused on the increasingly close bilateral
ties between the two countries. Cambodia hopes that they can forge a
strategic partnership as it already has such a relationship with China
while Japan has strategic ties with four countries in the ASEAN region.
