PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) – Prime Minister Hun Sen is appealing to Japanese business leaders to invest in Cambodia by ensuring favorable conditions, a government official said Friday.
"When our prime minister meets with Japanese businessmen today, he will explain to them the favorable conditions for foreign investment in Cambodia," said the official, who asked not to be named.
The official said Hun Sen, who arrived in Tokyo Thursday ahead of a weekend Mekong-Japan Summit, would assure Japanese businessmen "a most favorable climate for profitable business and investment in the country."
To attract Japanese investment, a Joint Cambodia-Japan Committee has been set up to address issues to facilitate Japanese investment and promote a favorable business climate and an open policy towards foreign investment.
"This specially-designed mechanism will enhance Cambodia’s attractiveness and appeal to Japanese investors as an investment destination," the official said.
In addition to the president of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren), Hun Sen was expected to meet with chief executives of Nittetsu Mining Co Ltd, Mitsui Oil Exploration Co Ltd and Minebea Co Ltd while in Tokyo.
